The Scary Simple Halloween preparation is running out. However, for a quality holiday – when others not only scream in fear but also admire – you can put in a little effort. We offer recipes for rapid production of handmade horrors and Halloween decor for the table and interior.
Self-sweeping brooms
You will need:
- Robot vacuum cleaner
- Small can
- Mop handle
- Corrugated paper or beige/brown raffia
- Silver tape
- Rope
Using tape, attach a small can to the center of the robot vacuum cleaner. Insert the mop handle into the can and secure it with tape. Measure the distance from the can’s neck to the floor—this is the length of the fringe made from corrugated paper or raffia should be. Tie the fringe to the base of the mop handle with rope. Start the robot vacuum cleaner, and the self-sweeping broom is ready for cleaning.
Ghosts – wild but cute
You will need:
- White gauzy fabric
- Helium-filled balloons
- Paper
- Marker
- Glue gun
- Weight (e.g., a bag with a few used batteries)
Suspend several balloons at different heights from the floor by attaching weights to the strings of the balloons at various lengths. Cut the gauzy fabric into squares of the appropriate size, so they slightly touch the floor. Apply a drop of glue to the top of the balloon and immediately attach the fabric. Then, draw eyes on the paper with a marker, cut them out, and glue them to the fabric where the face is supposed to be. For added effect, you can illuminate the ghosts with safe electronic candles placed on the floor under the “dresses” of the ghosts.
Crime scene
You will need:
- Painter’s tape
- Silicone mat
- Red glue stick
Load the glue gun with the red glue stick and use it to create a spot on the silicone mat with a diameter of approximately 7-10 cm. Let it dry. On the floor, mark the outline of a lying person with painter’s tape. To make the “chalk line” thinner, you can cut the tape in half lengthwise. Then peel off the “bloodstain” from the silicone mat and place it on the silhouette – in the area of the heart or head. If you don’t want to cover the entire floor with tape, you can cut the silhouette out of paper and attach it with the same tape in a few spots.
Pumpkin bowl
You will need:
- A round salad bowl, preferably transparent or white on the inside
- A pumpkin with a diameter close to that of the salad bowl
Cut the pumpkin in half lengthwise, scoop out the insides, and insert it into the salad bowl. Serve various dishes for the Halloween table in it. Alternatively, fill it with ice and use it to chill drinks. You can also put candies inside and offer them as treats to children.
Bleeding candles
You will need:
- Thick white candles
- Any candles made of red wax
- Lighter
Arrange the white candles on a tray or dish. You can place foil underneath them. Light the red candles and drip their wax onto the white candles to create striking “bloody” streaks. The foil will come in handy later when the holiday is over, as you can simply remove the wax along with the aluminum sheet without scraping it off the tray.
Brain in a Jar
You will need:
- A two- or three-liter glass jar with a lid
- A fresh head of cauliflower
- Waterproof red or purple marker
- White label base
Jar with Eyes
Carefully separate a part of the cauliflower head that will fit through the jar’s neck. Trim the thick part of the stem. Use the marker to outline red or purple “vessels.” Fill the jar with water and place the resulting “brain” inside. You can create a label specifying whose brain it is or add any other inscription.
You will need:
- Ping pong balls
- Permanent markers
- A two-liter jar
Draw eyes on the ping pong balls using permanent markers. Make sure to draw blood vessels for authenticity. Place the “eyes” in the jar and arrange them so that the irises are mostly facing the viewer.
Note: This is a simple Halloween decoration where ping pong balls with drawn eyes are placed in a jar to create a spooky effect.
Observing Flower
You will need:
- A ping-pong ball
- Permanent markers
- Hot glue gun
- An artificial or real rose (or another large flower with dark petals)
Another decoration option with “eyes.” Draw an eye on the ping-pong ball and then carefully cut out several inner petals of the rose so that the ball fits in the center. Squeeze a few drops of glue from the hot glue gun in there and attach the “eye.”
Spider Farm
You will need:
- Three to four plastic spiders
- White cotton balls
- Mini battery-powered string lights, preferably blue or green, but any will do
- A 2-liter glass jar
Place the string lights in the jar while simultaneously filling the space with cotton balls to evenly distribute the lights inside. It’s better to leave the switch for the lights accessible near the jar’s opening. Then, position the spiders along the jar’s walls so they are visible.
Horror Movie Night
You will need:
- A video projector
- Your favorite horror movie
- Light-colored walls or a sheet
One of the simplest yet most effective ways to create a truly Halloween atmosphere. Simply connect the projector to your computer and play a classic horror film.
